i'm all over the place

  • Jan. 5th, 2009 at 9:22 PM

Whew... I have been incredibly productive (ie busy) today!

I slept great last night, which was much needed... the past few nights haven't been so great. The Boy woke me up when he got home about 10 a.m. with a little surprise: He bought a fetal doppler from Craig's List! We then spent the next half hour or so poking at the baby. Poor thing. But we could hear his heartbeat great and although The Boy hasn't been able to feel him move yet, he could hear him move through the doppler, which is pretty neat as well.

Cubby has been incredibly active ever since I noticed it the other day. Usually first thing in the morning when I wake up and again mid-afternoon and then starting around 8 or 9 p.m. (However, I just ate a big meal and he's all over the place right now!) I'm wondering if I would have felt him sooner if I hadn't had the bladder infection. It seems strange to me that I went from absolutely nothing to knowing exactly what it was the first time I felt it and now him being active a lot now. I can tell the difference between a kick or punch and a roll - so neat feeling! Love it, love it, love it. Also sometimes when I touch where he is, there's a huge knot, sort of feels like a golf ball under a pile of blankets or something. I'm assuming it's his head or butt or he's curled up or something. Neat either way!

(Cute story: The doppler is attached to a stethoscope so this afternoon The Boy hooked it up to computer speakers so we could both listen at the same time and after I couldn't lay on the floor any more - no idea why he did this in the diningroom - I got up and he started listening to his own heartbeat. He laid back on the floor and said "I can see how this could lull a baby to sleep" and shortly thereafter it got very quiet. He had fallen asleep in the middle of the diningroom. Silly boy.)

The Boy's dad called the other day and was going over details with me about the crib and said, "Well, I've got the oak here and I think I'm going to get started on it today!" Yay! I can't wait to see pictures of it once he's done. I'm undecided on the finish I want still... I was thinking either the ebony color or cherry. Mom says I should go with cherry because black shows more dust. Plus, if the black gets chipped you'll be able to notice the gash more because of the contrast between the wood and the stain. So yeah. I think we're leaning towards cherry. I also think I may take him up on his offer to build a matching changing table. I have one that was given me but the screwholes are all stripped so it's very wobbly and scary looking.

I did some laundry which I am currently trying to fold but the kittens decided to take a nap in one of my hampers on top of the just-out-of-the-drier-clothes... guess they are cold. I made my summer squash casserole (sauteed the chicken in onions this time - tastes much better!) and made some sugar-free chocolate pudding. I even did all of the dishes and cleaned the kitchen after I was finished.

I had to call Babies R' Us to get them to fix my registry. We went in on Saturday to finish it and I told the lady that we already had one online but she created a new one anyway. I figured I'd just add what we'd chosen from the store to the online one, but my password I gave her didn't work. I clicked the "forgot password" link and had it e-mailed to me but where it should have said the password, it was blank. Annoying! So I called them and had them delete the newest one. They are both still showing up online though so I'll have to keep checking back to make sure they right one got deleted. And I still need to compare prices between BRU and Target... if it's cheaper at Target, I've been adding it to that registry instead.

My first shower is February 15 for my late fiance's family at the Buckingham House, which is one of the places where his sister-in-law caters. We have been discussing plans for it. I told her I wanted to help with it because she's incredibly busy as it is. She said she did one for Richard's sister with the theme of "nesting," using bird's nests for centerpieces. I think this is adorable. Or we might do a tea, which is cute and classy as well. Maybe we can combine them :) I've got invitations that were given to me for free a few years ago... I need to get them to her to send out. (I was actually planning on getting them ready, but she mentioned doing it the other day, so that's fine.) I feel like Feb. 15 is a bit early for a shower since I'm not due until June, but I don't want to do one in May, I have one scheduled for April 5 (friend's only - should be a blast!) and my mom's doing my family one sometime in March. So, February it is!

I've decided to give Project 365 a shot. You post one picture from your life each day for a year. I totally forgot I was going to start this on Jan. 1, so I've had to backtrack a little bit and sort of recreate some pictures, but that's okay. I need to get those downloaded still and I still need to take a picture for today. The only thing I worry about with this project is that it's going to be so baby-centered. I'm totally aware of this, but, well, my life is kind of baby-centered right now. I want to try to not make it so focused on that one thing, but so far out of the five pictures, only one is not about the baby. (Almost two, but I decided the picture The Boy took of me with the Stork Parking sign at BRU was cuter than a picture of my sushi from Saturday. I know we'll get sushi again, so yeah.)

My favorite so far is the picture I took of all of my naked baby dolls lined up on the kitchen counter drying off after going through the washing machine. It took me a good hour to redress them all, but they look great now! (Hmm... sudden need to organize and clean things. Nesting much already?)

Wow. I feel like I'm rambling a lot.

Off to see if I can dig up the pictures I want to scan in for my cousin. And maybe work on mastering the Jenga tower. I also need to download pics from my camera. See - I'm all over the place. And the laundry still needs folded!
